Bahrain Prince Becomes ‘First Royal from Gulf’ to Scale Mt. Lobuche
Prince of Bahrain Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, along with his expedition team, has successfully scaled 6,119m Mt. Lobuche on Saturday. With this, he became the first royal member from Gulf countries to climb a Himalayan summit.
This is the first ascent of Nepal’s 2020 expedition season after the government closed Himalayan peaks for mountaineering activities due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The team has a two-month permit to scale Mt Lobuche and Mt Manaslu as a trial before attempting to ascend Mt Everest in 2021. The Cabinet had approved the permit for the Bahraini team on August 30. The expedition will be led by Prince Mohamed Hamad Mohamed Al Khalifa.
